Short Out
International Short Film Festival
The Margin at the Center – 4th Edition, July 1–6, 2025, Villa Litta, Lainate (MI)

Short Out, the International Short Film Festival, is organized by Tutti Frutti ETS, a third-sector non-profit organization, in collaboration with and with the support of the Municipality of Lainate.

The Festival was born from the desire to actively contribute to cultural projects focused on enhancing the local area and its artistic heritage. It aims to create a space for reflection on the theme of the "margin," shining a spotlight on the artistic energy flowing from the outskirts—far from the stages of major metropolitan cities.

Cinema has often paused to explore the margins, the borderlands, and human limitations. The idea behind Short Out is to let the periphery itself speak—to tell us what cinema, culture, and art represent. It’s a reversal of roles, where the margin becomes the keeper of the threshold—not a place of abandonment or secondhand wear, but the center of an innovative movement, radiating culture, beauty, and vitality.

The theme of the 2025 edition is "The Borders of Memory": marking the 80th anniversary of the Liberation, Short Out offers a space to reflect on the meaning of remembrance, the limits of what we choose to preserve, and what risks being forgotten. Memory as a bridge between past and future—as a creative and collective act.

Short films from around the world, talks, concerts, art, poetry, and photography will engage in dialogue over six days.
The program of our fourth edition—entirely free of charge and available on the Short Out website—features, from Wednesday to Saturday evenings, outdoor screenings of the competing short films in the enchanting Teatro Naturale of Villa Litta. Simultaneously, the Cortile Nobile hosts a rich lineup of cultural events.

Admission to the Festival is completely free: ticket reservations for the screenings and evening events in the Teatro Naturale are open and available on Eventbrite.

If the reservations are SOLD OUT, we still look forward to welcoming you at Short Out: every evening there are 150 free, non-reservable entries available on a first-come, first-served basis.
In case of rain, screenings will be moved to the Auditorium of the L’Ariston Library – Lainate Urban Center, just a few meters from the main venue. Events scheduled in the Cortile Nobile will be relocated to the Hall of Mirrors on the ground floor of Villa Litta.
